When can I book my practical driving test?
The practical driving test can be booked and taken with a valid (at age 17) provisional driving licence upon passing your theory test.
However, If you get Personal Independence Payment – the mobility component, you can get your provisional licence age 16 and take your theory and car driving test.

- Your driving instructor’s reference number if you want to check they’re available for your test date.

EU, EEA and other foreign nationals applying for a practical driving test UK
As a Non-UK resident, you can book a practical driving test once you have passed the theory test.
However, you must have lived in the UK for at least 185 days in the twelve months before the date you take your test.

Do you need your theory test pass certificate number UK!
GOV.UK state:
If you’re booking your driving test – You usually do not need your theory test pass certificate number. Only contact DVSA if you’re asked for it and cannot find it.
If your taking the practical driving test – take your your theory test pass certificate, if you have it.
However you do not need a replacement theory test certificate to take to your car driving test. Your driving examiner will check that you’ve passed your theory test before your driving test starts.

Can I cancel my practical driving test UK?
Yes. You can cancel your driving test if you no longer need your appointment.
You can cancel the driving test online. You will need your driving licence number.
You need to give at least three full working days’ notice to cancel your test, or you won’t receive a refund.

There’s a different service to cancel the test in Northern Ireland.
Warning!
Taking the driving test can be stressful. So, if you can, book your test at your local driving test centre. Taking the test in an unfamiliar area could be risky if you don’t know the roads.
Change practical test date UK
Do you need to change your driving test appointment?
The Gov.UK website allows you to make changes. If a slot is available, you can:
- Change to an earlier driving test date.
- Move your test to a later date.
- Change to a different test centre to take the practical test.
You must give a minimum of three working days’ notice to avoid paying yet again.
Monday to Saturday count as working days but Sundays and public holidays do not.
How many times can you change your driving test date?
You can reschedule your practical test a maximum of 10 times.
If you need further changes after that, you must cancel your appointment and rebook.
